Why the name, “Pleasant Rise Farm” and the Apple Tree Logo?

I hope I got this right but to the best of my recollection, Patty named our Vermont farm after property that her grandparents owned in Connecticut, where she had many fond memories as a child. Unfortunately, I don’t know much more than that. But the name fit so well with our Vermont property since it sits on a hill overlooking a picturesque pasture, dairy farm, and another hill side.

The apple tree logo I selected because this was an old tree that Patty loved.

She buried her first horse, Oliver, who we brought from Pennsylvania, beneath this tree. She would sit sometimes on the bench pictured here and reminisce about her times with him.

This tree was important to Patty and she took special care to make sure it was professionally trimmed each year by our friend, Brad. On the day that Patty died, 7/11/2008, when I got home from the hospital, I found that the tree had mysteriously split and was partially on the ground.

A few years later, an ice storm took the rest of the tree so it no longer exists. But the memories remain, as does our Pleasant Rise Farm.
